The library has several special collection areas:

Edo woodblock print books

The “CEEJA Edo-bunko” (“CEEJA Edo Library”) is an extensive collection of over 600 woodblock-printed books dating from the Edo period (1600–1868), plus a smaller number from the early Meiji period (1868-1912).

Historical relations between the German-speaking region and Japan

More than 2000 books from the 17th century to the present: scientific studies, travel reports, diplomatic sources, literature of various kinds, magazines, etc.

France-Japan relations

Books, magazines and other documents from the last four centuries.

Western novels on Japan

Novels and novellas about love, landscape and passion in Japan, in German, English and French.

Collection on the mining history of Japan

A special collection, unique in Europe, that includes books and documents on Japanese mining.

Ōhara Junnosuke - engineer and manager (1858-1896)

Ōhara Junnosuke was an early graduate of the Imperial College of Engineering in Tokyo. His handwritten lecture notes, internship reports and diaries, etc. are a unique testimony of early engineering education in Japan.
