Japanese calendars

A collection of various Japanese calendars from the last 50 years, intended as the basis for an exhibition on time and calendar design in modern Japan.

The themes range from traditional motifs such as Ukiyoe pictures and paintings in Japanese or Chinese style, to photo calendars with temples and shrines, landscapes and small-format woodcuts with folk designs. The collection also includes Ikebana calendars, which are distributed by diplomatic missions abroad at New Year, tear-off calendars with daily mottos, and calendars with modern designs.
